Workload of a course
The video based courses are built for receiving 3 Credit Points with a workload of circa 90 hours. With it, the courses have the similar length than common courses. Every online-course of the Academy is split in 14-15 thematically lectures.

Lectures and episodes
Every thematically lecture insists of 90 min shots. For a friendlier study, these 90 min are again split in three 30 min episodes. The first two episodes are normal lectures with lecture slides. The third episode is an interview with the lecturer. Here, open questions, explanations and examples are given. The interviews are a possibility for the students to listen to a discussion and deepening their own knowledge.veranstaltungen
 

Media didactical concept
Virtual Academy means that students can take part at video based courses with ESD-basics, even if they haven´t any further experiences with it. Via Distance-learning, here online courses, they will get the competences levels of knowing and understanding. The learning outcomes in every single episode of the courses are formulated in a way, that students can describe, repeat, define, explain and differentiate the content. The hints for self-study are created in a same way. With the formulation of the learning outcome at the beginning of every episode, students learn on which competences lay the focus.

 

The Virtual Academy of Sustainability considers the competence orientation like following:

  1. Competence orientation in European Higher Education Institutes

  2. gmc zitatNext to communicating specialized knowledge, today there is more space in the Bachelor or Master studies for interdisciplinary competences. When students came to universities, they have an inconsistent level of interdisciplinary competences. That’s why most of the Higher Education Institutes offers optional courses in their “general studies“, specific study or “Studium generale“. In this field works the Virtual Academy for Sustainability. Here, students can get competences for sustainable development in self-study.

  3. Competence orientation in the German framework of qualification of a lifelong learning:

  4. The Bachelor and Master level 6 and 7 of the German framework of qualification picks out the personal and study discipline competences as a central theme. These levels can be guaranteed at the courses of the Academy by choosing expert lecturers from Higher Education Institutes who have their lectures didactical prepared.
    Particularly, two competencies are addressed by the Virtual Academy of Sustainability: online learning promotes one the one hand the independence to define Learning and working progresses, create them individual and to evaluate them. On the other hand the students should get the competence to use the content of the courses and build new problem-solving in their own field of study. This is easier for students of the sustainable development because they learn about the ports to other disciplines.

  5. Competences to create a sustainable development

  6. Creating a sustainable development especially means to solve more complex problems in all areas of live. Students are learning this competence of complex problem solving in their own study discipline. But to solve sustainable problems, you need other or kinds or more competencies. For it you need competence in reflecting guiding principles, the competence to handle with incomplete and most complex informations, the competence to handle with individual decision dilemmas or the competence to act in an ethical way. The courses of the Virtual Academy of Sustainability will build these competencies for a sustainable development.
